スリットアニメーションから発想したディスプレイの作品シリーズのひとつ。
子どもの頃に、透明のしましまシートを絵本の上でスライドさせて
動くアニメーションを楽しんだ。
大人になった時に、映像ディスプレイの上にしましまシートを載せることを思い付いた
スリットのシートを載せると、思いもよらなかった光のモアレが現れ、
いつまでも見ていられる現象が起こった。
様々な画像、映像、イメージが世の中を満たす現代において、
私は自分の感覚をもって、ものを見るとはどういうことだろうかと常日頃考える。
自分の眼で実感をもって見たものを信じたいと思う一方、
眼で見えるものこそ不確かだと考える。
スリットアニメーションから発想したこのシリーズでは、
記録映像に撮ることが少しむずかしい、
映像の中のスリットと、実物のスリットが引き起こす現象によって、 ちょっとしたイリュージョンが起こる。
それは、何てことはない光の変化だが、今ここで作品を見ている目にしか映らないことであってほしい。
美術の世界のなかでは、不確かな錯覚を楽しむことができると私は考えている。
今回のバージョンでは、和室の空間に飾るための木製掛にディスプレイをしつらえた。
木製掛は本来、季節の俳句が書かれた色紙を挟むための道具である。
私はその書や俳句といった色紙を、映像に入れ替えてみた。
日本文化の中で長く続くものに、今日の技術を組み合わせて
新鮮な感覚をもたらす作品を目指した。
黒竹の茶道具に、個展開催地である新宿のアニメーションを組み合わせた。
A series of display pieces inspired by slit animation.
When I was a child, I used to enjoy playing the moving animation by sliding the transparent striped sheet over the picture book.
As I became an adult, I came up with the idea of putting a slit sheet on the surface of a video display.
Then I put the striped sheet on top, and moiré of light appeared, which I had never expected.
The phenomenon of light moiré appeared, and I could watch it forever.
In this version, the display was placed on a wooden hanging for display in a Japanese-style room.
Wooden hangings were originally used to hold coloured paperboards with seasonal haiku written on it.
I replaced the coloured paperboard with images of calligraphy and haiku.
I aimed to create an artwork that would bring a fresh sensation by combining Japanese culture with today's technology.
I combined Black bamboo tea utensils with an animation of Shinjuku, where the exhibition was held.
