French artist Marcel Duchamp's work includes an experimental film called 'anemic cinema'.
Duchamp drew a design on a flat circular piece of cardboard and placed it on a record turntable, spinning it around to create a three-dimensional 'roto-relief' in the film.
Created almost 90 years ago, it was just a circular shape that kept turning.
But now, in 2017, I find it a pure pleasure to watch and I am thrilled by its beauty.
With this work I wanted to create something in between the fleeting illusion of a video and a record that you can hold in your hand. It is an animation that appears only on a turntable.

フランスの美術家マルセル・デュシャンの作品に、'anemic cinema'という実験映画があります。
デュシャンは平らな円形の厚紙にデザインを描き、レコードのターンテーブルに乗せて回転させ、三次元的に見えるようにした「ロトレリーフ」を映画に収めました。
およそ 90年前に作られた、ただ丸いかたちが回り続けるだけの映像。
しかし2017年の今でこそ私は、そこに純粋な観る楽しさを発見し、美しさに胸躍ったのです。
この作品では儚い錯覚のような映像と、手に取れるレコードの間にあるものを目指しました。 ターンテーブルの上にだけ現れるアニメーションです。
